Transcript of Deed to Union Cemetery,
San Mateo County Recorderss Office,

"This Indentum, Made the Sixteenth day of March, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-Nine, between James Berry, Curtis Baird and Rachael J. Baird his wife, of the County of San Mateo, Soledad de Arguello and Jose Ramon Arguello of the County of Santa Clara, S. M. Mezes of the City of San Francisco, all in the State of California parties of the first part, and John D. Weller Governor of the State of California and to his successors in office in trust for the use and benefit of the 'Union Cemetery Association' of San Mateo County California party of the second part: Witnesseth: That the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of the Sum of Five Hundred Dollars, lawful money of the United States of America, to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. Have granted, bargained, sold, remised, conveyed, and quit claimed unto the party of the second part and to his successor in office forewith all the right, title, interests to said parties of the first part in and to that certain piece or parcel of land, part of the Rancho de las Pulgas, situated in the County of San Mateo and State of California and particularly bounded and described as follows, to wit; commencing at a point where Mr. Hawes fence intersects the western side of the county road from Redwood City to Oakley's Mill, whence a white oak blazed and marked with a cross, S 5 _ W one chain and forty links. Thence by true Meridian along the western side of said County Road, S. 10.20 W. thirteen chain and seventy-five links to a stake for corner, thence N. 73.30 W. eight chains and seventy-eight links to a point against H. Hawe's fence. Thence along said fence N. 44.30 E. fifteen chains and fifty links to the point of beginning; containing six acres of land.

The same being deeded and conveyed for the purpose of a cemetery for the burial of the dead, the title to remain in the Said Governor and his Successors in Office forever in trust for said Association, but the Association to have the control and management therefore, and the right to sell burial rights therein, and to use and expend monies arising from such sales in the improvement and ornament of Said Cemetery.

Together with all and singular the tenenants, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging, and the rents, issues and profits thereof;

To Have and To Hold, all and singular the above mentioned and described premises together with the appurtenances unto the said party of the Second part and his Successors in Office forever, in trust for the uses and purposes aforesaid, and for no other purpose whatsoever.
