These photos were provided through the generous efforts of Jane Shute. Her grandmother grew up in the Bridgeport/Bodie area and kept many photos and other treasures. Jane has been systematically going through boxes and organizing them. As you can see, many of the photos are marked with notations of who/what/when/where. They provide a visual history and quite a lot of family history. We hope that they will be interesting, informative, and enlightening. Perhaps you will see some of "yours" in here.

This was written by Edna Murphey, daughter of Edward and Julia Allen
Murphey. Edna was Jane Shute's grandmother. The handwriting, which is easily readable on the larger version, reads: This inset for the crown of a man's hat was made by Grandma Julia for her sweetheart, Ed Murphy, before they were married--which was Jan. 15, 1890. |
